DICK AND FANNY return for their 3rd birthday on Saturday 29th September at new venue THE SHACKLEWELL ARMS with an international DJ line up to celebrate three years of mixing up gays, lesbians and their friends. For our birthday we have assembled a trans-European collection of DJs including AFRICA (Mortar & Pestle, Paris), DJUNA BARNES (Copenhagen), RUFUS&BAMBI (London via Italy) and W JEREMY (New York City) to drop DAF’s usual mix of classic house and techno, disco, italo and a hint of electro for a dancing crowd of lesbian, gays, trannies and their admirers. So come celebrate with us.
AFRICA doesn’t entirely know what he is doing. A new project from Graham Peel, one half of the blog house scenes more colourful acts “Dolby Anol,” africa is less a musical statement but more an umberella alias for whatever genre he happens to try that particular week. His first release on Mortar and Pestle (the label he and fellow Dolby Anol-ite John Baillie founded last year) harked back to arguably dance music’s best period, French house. “Girls Gone Mild” garnered support from DJs across the globe and catching the eye of several blogs. It was, however, the unexpected success of his remix of fellow Scottish producer Polymaths “Fragile Breaks” which saw him raising his profile significantly-in a way that only Diplo dropping your song in his BBC radio 1 mix can. He is currently putting the finishing touches to his next release entitled “Paradise 100” to be released on “le label du jour” 100%Silk in 2013.
DJUNA BARNES (Maria Gerhardt) is a Copenhagen-based DJ and writer. For a decade she has been a leading figure in Copenhagen’s nightlife, DJing, booking and hosting parties. She has been involved in the early 00s queer scene Dunst.dk, Distortion Festival, the legendary Suicide Sunday parties and co-started and booked the infamous bar Jolene in Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District. Djuna plays a wide range of music and has played all over the world highlights including Tokyo, New York, Berlin and Reykjavik. She has played alongside names such as Grace Jones, Boy George, Peaches and friend and sidekick Anders Trentemøller.
Self-registered free spirit and accidental collector of travel stamps, Elena Colombi – aka RUFUS&Bambi – invaded the London scene some years ago armed with nothing but a love of music and a toothbrush. In that time she’s whisked up something of a storm, scoring a residency at “BREED” and setting up her own shindig “Abattoir”.
Having been a house music aficionado since his teenage years, W JEREMY immediately pursued his dream and went to work in the industry right after school. He got his start as an intern at Elite Music Group where he worked along with some of the industry’s finest, including Issy Sanchez and Debra Eriksen. He then went on to work for the legendary Tony Humphries and help launch the Yellorange label. Six months later, Jeremy took a short break from the industry and moved to the west coast to re-emerge as a DJ. While in San Francisco, he became a resident DJ at the world-famous Endup from 1997-2001 at the Saturday morning party, Otherwhirled. He spent the next several years gigging at clubs all over the Bay Area including, Liquid, Club Six, 111 Minna, 1015 Folsom and 177 Townsend. In 2001 he moved back to New York, and began DJ residencies at clubs such as APT, Centro-Fly, Lot 61, Baktun, and Sapphire Lounge.
